Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should my child wear to class?
A: Children should dress in warm, comfortable clothing with lightweight socks and gloves or mittens.  Knit leggings,      sweatpants, sweaters and sweatshirts are good choices.  We highly recommend helmets for all children under age 6.

Q: What are the class procedures?
A: We suggest arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time.  Skaters must always check in at the skate counter.

Q: What if my child misses a class?
A: Participants are allowed make up lessons for missed classes.  Make up lessons must be attended during the enrolled semester only and will not carry over into future semesters. PLEASE DO NOT ASK.  No credit or refund is offered for missed classes.

Q: Should I buy my child his/her own skates?
A: Rental Skates are included with your child’s tuition and are appropriate for  beginning skaters.  As skaters progress, they benefit from the comfort, support  and consistency of their own skates.  Ask your child’s professional instructor or inquire at the Pro Shop for a recommendation of skates based on your child’s level.

Q: How often should my child practice?
A: We recommend skaters practice approximately 2 hours per week in addition to  their regularly scheduled class.  Skaters should practice the skills they learn in  their classes.

Q: What if I have more questions?
A: You may contact your child’s instructor or the Skating Office with your questions, comments or concerns.  The Skating Office can be reached at (818) 893-1784 or donna@valleyedgeskatingschool.com.
